Concepts
Each session focuses on a selection of the following concepts: Project kick-off, brainstorming and issue lists. Decision hierarchies, formulation of strategies and strategy tables. Problem structure, influence diagrams and decision trees. Cash flow models, uncertainty and risks. Real option identification and value of information. Systematic and un-systematic risks. Visualisation of results and decision basis.

Target group
This lunch&learn is targeting professionals that need an introduction to different decision analysis concepts and techniques, or departments and project teams that needs to raise awareness about decision analysis within their part of the organisation.
Background
No special background is required, but some basic knowledge about economics, experience from strategy processes or project work is recommended.

Q: We have limited knowledge about decision analysis. How can we benefit from a focus session or lunch&learns?
The idea behind these sessions is to make management and staff aware of the concepts of decision analysis and get an understanding of the benefits of applying a structured approach to decision-making. We structure the sessions to give direct benefits independent of previous knowledge levels and do our best to inspire the participants for continued learning.
Q: We don’t know whether or not we have adequate decision processes or how me measure the quality of our decision analysis. How can we quickly get an indication of the quality of our decision-making capabilities?
We have designed a simple survey to help you assess the quality of your organisation’s current decision analysis capabilities. Take the survey and your results will give a good indication.
Q: We evaluate a number of investment proposals per year, but each investment is small compared to the energy sector. Will the decision analysis framework and techniques that you teach be overkill in our case?
The size of the investment and its significance will vary between industries and from organisation to organisation. Good decision analysis will help you prioritise between your investment opportunities, as all decision proposals are prepared in a consistent manner. If any of your investment opportunities have potential to make or break the company, decision analysis will be important for your sustained success.
Q: We are looking into the possibility of running a training program within our organisation, with a series of sessions catered to specific roles. Can this be arranged?
Yes, a significant portion of our teaching is done in-house and in close cooperation with the client. Please get in touch to discuss your requirements and needs.
Q: In a small company like ours, the board of directors is involved in all strategic decision-making. Are the focus sessions and the lunch&learns also suitable for board members ?
Our sessions can be tailored to the specific levels and depth of knowledge needed by the boards, management or technical disciplines. A separate session for the board is definitively relevant!
Q: We are a lean organisation and do not have dedicated analysts to perform evaluations and prepare decision proposals. How can we improve the quality of our decision analysis capabilities without employing more qualified personnel?
The techniques we teach are practical and easy to adopt and will enable the project teams to work more effectively towards a proper decision basis.
